Rebecca Gonzalez Cifaldi is a mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend. She is a photographer, artist, designer, graphic design historian, and educator. Born in 1969 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter and granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, she spent her childhood in the suburban region of Detroit known as Downriver. Rebecca attended Eastern Michigan University and earned a BFA in drawing and sculpture with an art history minor and later an MA in printmaking. She went on to complete an MFA in photography at Columbia College Chicago. She has taught at Columbia College Chicago, Harold Washington City Colleges of Chicago, Washtenaw Community College, Eastern Michigan University. Rebecca is currently an assistant professor in the Art, Art History, and Design department Michigan State University teaching graphic design and photography. She is the Faculty Advisor for the AIGA Student Group at MSU. Her artwork explores many media related to non-silver and alternative process photography, handwritten typography, and digital methods of production, exploring concerns of time, space, memory, place, and grief. Her teaching practice focuses on anti-discriminatory pedagogy. Her work is in private collections and collections of Columbia College Chicago, Eastern Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College.
